FELD200 connects Feldkirch in the year 2025 with a vision of coexistence in a hundred years‘ time, in which non-human voices play a dominant role in the city‘s soundscape thanks to achievement of ecological goals and the strengthening of biodiversity. The composition is based on recordings from various landscapes in Feldkirch, including larger and smaller wetlands such as the Bangs-Matschels fen, the Illauen and the Egelsee, as well as other transition zones around the city. Sounds were recorded above and below the surface at different times of the year: underwater insects, bats, various bird species, frogs, bees, and crickets meet atmospheric and geological sounds such as wind, rain, storms, and the flow of water. In FELD 200, the dominant cacophony of human activities is deliberately reduced, moved into the background and allows a new balance between human and non-human actors to emer- ge through sonic permeability.

Feld 200 is one of the three winning projects of the open call for cultural artists “Feldkirch 2125 – Visions of a City of the Future.” To mark the 100th anniversary of the merger of the municipalities, entries were sought that address the future of Feldkirch and outline visions for coexistence in the coming century.
