s.irene is a sound installation at the mountain lake Schlierersee in Salzburgs region Lungau. The score consists of the most frequently used terms in Lungau's advertising brochures that become beguiling experimental onomatopoeias, interpreted by a choir.
Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors in the Lungau and shapes working and living conditions in the region. In tourism advertising, geographical categories such as landscape or space become part of the product and thus the subject of the advertising - working mainly with landscape stereotypes, both in the chosen images and in the accompanying texts.
"ECHT.SEIN. Salzburger Lungau - Urlaub, der erdet"
The term "echt" (real) is part of the marketing strategy of the Lungau region and appears again and again in descriptions. s.irene wants to explore these images of desire production and question their meaning and impact together with the festival visitors. By inserting these stereotypes and advertising methods directly into the experienced landscape, s.irene creates a commentary on its own programming in relation to the big words „recreation“ and „experience“ as well as the consumption of landscapes as a tourism agenda.
